Going Green
Skinner Vineyards and Winery is committed to producing exceptional wines that reflect the spirit of the Sierra Foothills, using many of the same Rhône varietals that were grown by our family 150 years ago. Our goal is to create wines that have a sense of place and showcase the unique terroir of our estate.  Our vineyard's granitic soils, high elevation, and extreme weather conditions make it and its surrounding Fair Play and El Dorado Appelations unlike any other.

Our viticultural practices are consistent with the vision of representing the site. Our hands-on approach in the vineyard allows us to maximize the fruit's potential and express the nuances of our estate. Skinner emphasizes sustainability in the vineyard and winery as a core philosophy to ensure the vineyard's natural resources will be available for generations to come.

Our winemaking philosophy is summed up in one word -- balance.  We accentuate the regional elements that set our fruit apart, while attempting to minimize mother nature's extreme conditions to create a balanced wine with focused flavors, supple & elegant mouthfeel, and aromatic complexity. To this end, the winery is designed to allow the fruit to express itself naturally. The fruit is hand picked, sorted for quality and gravity fed into fermenters. Our state of the art facility allows us to control external elements like temperature to ensure optimal fermentation. The must is punched down by hand and the fermentation begins after a 5-day cold soak. After fermentation is complete, the wines are gently moved to French oak barrels where they age for 1-2 years before being bottled unfined and unfiltered.
